Help This Person

Any time you interact with another human being, the first three words in your head should be "Help this person".

Waiting in line at Starbucks and watching an overworked, stressed out barista, think about ways to lighten her load and cheer her up. Be the solution instead of another problem.

Calling on a customer, think of that person as a human being rather than a pile or cash. Look for ways to help him or her on a personal level long before you launch into a sales pitch.

Thinking "help this person" changes your mindset. It causes you to focus on being helpful rather than getting what you want. Others will pick up on your generous and open attitude. You'll see.

Next time the phone rings, a text arrives, or someone else gets on the bus, think, "Help this person."
